Ivory Coast Sack Louis Gasset After Poor Nations Cup Performance

Ivory Coast have terminated the contract of head coach Jean-Louis Gasset following a poor showing at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

The hosts country finished third in the group A with three points after winning their first match against Guinea-Bissau.

They lost 1-0 to Nigeria in the second match and suffered an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea in their last group match.

Their hopes of qualifying is no longer in their hands as they await the results of Group E and Group F to determine if they will make it as one of the best losers.

Gasset’s sacking was confirmed in a statement by the country ‘s football federation on Wednesday afternoon.

The statement read: “The contracts of coach Jean-Louis Gasset and his assistant Ghislain Printant are terminated due to insufficient results,”

The 70-year-old Frenchman was named the head coach of the team in 2022 after serving as assistant coach under Patrice Beaumelle.

Gasset becomes the second coach to be dismissed at the end of the first round after Chris Hughton was fired as the coach of Ghana on Wednesday morning.
