PHOTOS: Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway Reconstruction By Abia Govt Underway

Following the flag-off of the 6.8km Aba-Porthacourt Expressway on the 13th of October, 2023 by the Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, the pace of work has remained fast as promised.

Julius Berger is expected to reconstruct the road as well as build a flood control mechanism within the area which is part of the flood-prone areas of Uratta, Ohabiam and Ndiegoro within 18 months.

As at Tuesday when THE WHISTLER visited, excavation of dirts, road filling and alignment of the drainage system were ongoing.

 Julius Berger’s Director of Corporate Development, Tobias Meletschus, said the company has been working to finish up the first tier of the expressway and get the right flood control mechanism in order “to tackle the flood issues in the area for good.”

The Aba-Porthacourt Expressway has been one of Dr. Alex Otti’s major interests during his pre-election campaigns. He promised to permanently fix the abandoned road and revive the long-abandoned economic activities along the area.
