JUST IN: Ease U.S. Visa Application For Nigerians, Onyeama Urges Blinken

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has urged the United States Government to relax visa restrictions for Nigerians seeking entry to the country.

Onyeama made the appeal on Thursday during a joint press briefing with the U.S. Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The minister noted that Nigeria was aware that the covid-19 pandemic had prompted restrictions across the nations, but urged the U.S. to ease visa restriction to its country.

“An area that is also of importance to us Nigeria is how we can ease visa application to US embassy.

“It has been difficult to secure visa interviews,” he said, adding that both countries can find solution to the matter.

He welcome Blinken to the country and appreciated the U.S. government for donation of vaccines to the country to fight covid-19 pandemic.

Onyeama added that the Nigeria appreciates, “the weaponry that has been provided to Nigeria and as you say correctly, it’s not just the hardware but the software.”

For Blinken, he emphasized that FG and its agencies must abide by human rights.

Regarding the much talked about EndSARS protests, he called for the “immediate release of those detained since October 20.”

Responding, Onyeama assured that the government respects the law and will always follow due process.
