JUST IN: Ganduje Suspends Media Aide For Attacking Buhari

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has suspended one of his media aides, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, for publicly attacking President Muhammadu Buhari on social media.

Yakasai, popularly known as Dawisu, had taken to his Twitter page on Sunday morning to accuse President Buhari of having “zero empathy” to the plights of Nigerians.

The governor’s aide criticized Buhari for allegedly failing to take urgent steps to address Nigerians over the recent nationwide protests against harassment and extra-judicial killings by SARS operatives.

Yakasai had said, ““I’ve never seen a government with zero empathy like that of President Muhammadu Buhari” adding that, “So many times when his people are going through a difficult time and expect some sort of tap on shoulder to reassure them that he is in charge, but he failed to do so. The ‘i don’t care attitude‘ is on another level.”

But in apparent response to Yakasai’s outburst against the president, Ganduje, who belongs to the same All Progressives Congress (APC) party as President Buhari, has suspended the aide.

The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday.

Garba said although Yakasai noted that his comments were personal opinion, the aide’s personal opinion could be mistaken for official stand on matters of public concern.

“The governor therefore warned political appointees and public servants to guard against making statements capable of drawing unnecessary controversy and heating up the polity,” the commissioner said, adding that Yakasai’s suspension was to reaffirm Ganduje’s support for the Buhari administration.
