JUST IN: Real Madrid Are La Liga Champions For Record 34 Times With 2-1 Win Over Villarreal

Spanish giant, Real Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium won their 34th Spanish La Liga Satander with a 2-1 win over Villarreal on Thursday.

The Galacticos won the title with a game to spare after a slip up by their bitter rivals Barcelona since the league restarted, accruing 86 points after 37 games, seven points above former Champions Barcelona who lost to Osasuna 2-1.

Two goals from their top goal poacher, Karim Benzema was enough to put to bay the resilience of Villarreal side.

Benzema opened the scored at the 29th minute, firing through the legs Villarreal goal keeper Sergio Asenjo and doubled it from penalty spot in the 77th minute.

Vicente Iborra pulled one back for the visitors late in the game and almost snatched an equalizer in added time.
