JUST IN: Supreme Court Gets 8 New Justices

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, on Friday morning, sworn-in eight new Justices of the Supreme Court – the highest court in the land.

They are: Hon. Justice M. Lawal Garba ( North West), Hon. Justice Helen M. Ogunwumiju (South West),Hon. Justice Addu Aboki (North West), Hon. Justice I. M. M. Saulawa (North West),Hon. Justice Adamu Jauro ( North East), Hon. Justice Samuel C. Oseji (South South),Hon. Justice Tijjani Abubakar(North East); and Hon. Justice Emmanuel A. Agim (South South).

These Justices took their oath of office and pledged to abide by the provisions of the Constitution.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that the Senate had on October 13, confirmed eight new Justices of the Supreme Court, who were nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

On his part, the Senate President Ahmad Lawan, had said that the confirmed judges would boost the Apex court’s capacity to try numerous cases.

“Let me on behalf of all of us congratulate the new Justices. We pray by these confirmations, the Supreme Court will have more hands to deal with cases that are waiting in the Supreme Court,” he said.

THE WHISTLER gathered that the number of Supreme Court justices now stands at 20.
