JUST IN: UK Approves Pfizer Vaccine As Covid-19 Cases Cross 1.6m

After authorization by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory, United Kingdom, the Prime Minister of the UK Boris Johnson said on Wednesday, that the Pfizer/BioNtech Covid-19 Vaccine will be distributed to citizens beginning from next week.

Based on latest Worldometer data, the UK has registered about 1,643,086 covid-19 cases and 59,051 deaths.

The PM Johnson noted that the intervention was needed to save lives.

“It’s fantastic that @MHRAgovuk has formally authorized the @Pfizer/@BioNTech_Group vaccine for Covid-19. The vaccine will begin to be made available across the UK from next week.

“It’s the protection of vaccines that will ultimately allow us to reclaim our lives and get the economy moving again.

THE WHISTLER had reported that Pfizer Incorporated, in partnership with BioNTech had on November 10, announced that its “vaccine candidate was found to be more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 in participants without evidence of prior SARS-CoV-2 infection in the first interim efficacy analysis.”

Reacting to the news, the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, lauded the UK for the directive.

“The Flag of United Kingdom is the first country to authorize the Pfizer/BionTech #COVID19 vaccine for emergency use and expects to start rolling it out as soon as next week,” he stated.

A vaccine has been recommended by the WHO as part of the measures for ending the covid-19 pandemic.
