Kamaru Usman Retains UFC Welterweight Title After Beating Jorge Masvidal

Nigeria’s Kamaru Usman has retained his Welterweight belt against Jorge Masvidal after a unanimous decision at UFC 251 on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

Usman, 33, got the required points which led to the three Judges unanimously declaring him winner on Fight Island.

Jorge Masvidal was condemned to defeat as he only took up the fight with Usman within a six days’ notice and it showed in the fight as Usman was the better opponent.

The win takes Usman’s winning spree to a 12-0 run in the UFC and has prolonged his unbeaten run to 16

An excited Usman after winning the fight said: “Gambred is the biggest, baddest dude out there right now and I had to switch gears to prepare for him on six weeks notice.

“I had to make a mental switch, I prepared for Gilbert I had a completely different gameplay.

“Gambred is tough and he showed it out there.

“I think Jorge is tough. I’ve always said it.

“Jorge is a tough guy and I give him credit for that. I’m just a level better.”
