Lagos Seals Off 33 Restaurants, Bars, Others For Flouting COVID-19 Protocols

The Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed off 33 restaurants, gyms, bars and other social facilities in the state for allegedly violating the state’s COVID-19 reopening protocols.

The Director General of the commission, Mr Lanre Mojola, who announced this in a statement on Sunday said the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would not hesitate to close down any facility that sabotaged the efforts of the state to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Mojola said the state government had zero tolerance for violation of its laws and regulations, saying the government did not make any law to punish the people but for the well-being of the majority of the people.

The commission’s statement read, “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had at his last briefing on the state’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) response urged hairdressing salons that have been accredited by the Lagos State Safety Commission to reopen strictly by appointment.

“Hairdressing salon should operate with a maximum of 40 per cent of the occupants of the total floor space of such a salon at any given time while restaurants and eateries should continue to operate on a takeaway basis.

“The governor also implored owners of outfits in the entertainment and tourism sector to register on www.lasgsafetyreg.com to enable them to receive their provisional safety compliance letters.”

He said organisations that had collected provisional compliance letters for sectors that had not reopened should remain closed. He however said they must continuously ensure that necessary safety protocols were put in place in anticipation of when the governor would order reopening of their sectors.
