Lassa Fever: Kano Hospital Denies Outbreak

The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has denied a report of Lassa fever outbreak which led to the death of three people at the hospital.

This reaction comes a few hours after three victims including two medical doctors were reported dead after operating a pregnant patient, suspected to be a primary carrier of the virus at the teaching hospital.

According to the Hospital spokesperson, Hauwa Abdullahi, it is not factual for anybody to conclude that the death recorded in the hospital was as a result of Lassa fever.

Abdullahi further disclosed that the hospital is currently undergoing three stages of investigations on the issue of Lassa fever and statements on the output of the findings will be made public.

The State Ministry for Health spokesperson, Samaila Gwammaja, also explained that the deaths were still suspected cases adding that the blood sample had already been taken to Lagos for analysis with results expected on Wednesday.

“The result is expected tomorrow (Wednesday) hopefully, 2 pm, when he promised to converge a Press Conference on the matter.”
