“The Peace and Security Council, in view of recent positive political developments, decides to lift the suspension it had imposed against the Mali.

“To this end, the Republic of Mali is authorized to participate fully in all activities of the African Union,” it tweeted.

On his part, AU Commission’s Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, stressed that the release of detained political figures in Mali was a welcome development.

“I am currently participating in the meeting of the @_AfricanUnion Peace and Security Council on the situation of #Mali, following developments in the country,” he added on Friday.

THE WHISTLER reported that Mali’s former Minister of Defense, retired colonel Bah Ndaw, was on September 25, sworn in as the country’s interim president.

Recall that the mutinying soldiers had in a military coup in August, removed its Prime Minister, Boubou Cisse, and the President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, from office.

But, pressure from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and other international bodies, compelled them to release those detained.

ECOWAS also gave the transition government a period of 12 months to return the country to constitutional order.
