Mikel Donates N10m To Stranded Dream Team VI

Super Eagles skipper, John Obi Mikel has come to the rescue of the Nigeria U-23 team camped in Atlanta, by donating $30,000 to them.

The players and coach Samson Siasia are currently camped in Atlanta Georgia, in preparation for the Rio Games next month.

According to one of the players in the camp, the Dream Team VI squad have been faring from their own purse without any form of assistance from the government, until the Chelsea midfielder waded in.

“Mikel has donated $30,000 to the team. You know we have not received money since we left Nigeria,” the player said.

Siasia earlier this week, lamented the terrible state of the life in the camp, stressing that the players have been using their personal funds to survive, before revealing that the Nigeria Football Federation have not paid him for about 5 months.

He further pleaded with the government to speedily intervene as they were cash-strapped in their base in Atlanta.

Mikel, 29 was named captain of Team Nigeria to the Rio Olympic Games, which commences from 5 August to 20 August.

The Dream Team VI begin their campaign on August 4 against japan, they will also face Sweden and Colombia in their group.
