Mikel Obi Completes Stoke City Move
Former Super Eagles captain and Chelsea defensive midfielder, John Mikel Obi has completed his move to Stoke city .
The former Chelsea player became a free agent after terminating his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor on mutual consent in March.
The 33-year – old was announced as a Stoke player after completing his medicals today, Monday.
Stoke City manager, Michael O’Neill, said:” We’re delighted to bring John to the Club. His playing career speaks for itself and underlines his calibre as a player.”
Stoke city finish fifteenth in the championship last season and the addition of an experience midfielder of Mikel’s caliber will help the team .
Mikel left Chelsea in 2017 after an 11 years spell with the London side, winning a UEFA Champions League, a Europa league, three FA cup, two Premiere league and a league Cup.
Mikel has played for the Super Eagles 89 times, was among the eagles team that won the 2013 African Cup of Nations and played in two world cups .
He left Chelsea and played in the Chinese Super league with Tianjin TEDA and returned briefly to England with Middlesbrough in 2019 before moving to Turkey .
