Nigerians have reacted to the declaration of the governorship election in Osun state as inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The commission declared the election inconclusive after the PDP candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke scored 254,698 votes to beat the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate who polled 254,345 votes.
According to INEC, Adeleke could not be declared the winner because the number of votes cancelled – 3,498, was higher than 353 by which the PDP candidate defeated his opponent.
INEC, therefore, declared that a rerun poll will on Thursday, take place in seven polling units where election results were cancelled.
While some Nigerians hailed the ‘inconclusive’ declaration, others have faulted the commission, alleging foul play in the declaration.
THE WHISTLER in this report, highlights reactions from Nigerians on the social media.

S.179(2), #Nigeria's 1999 Const. INEC has lots of powers but that doesn't include amending Constitution in Osun pic.twitter.com/Guxivr0FnD

I cannot find any legal basis for INEC refusing to declare Sen. Ademola Adeleke Governor-elect of Osun State . I have looked at S. 179 of the 1999 Constitution which is the grundnorm, the fons et origo, the supreme law of the land. @OfficialPDPNig @officialKolaO @bukolasaraki

In my layman's opinion, @INECNigeria was wrong in declaring the Osun Gubernatorial election as inconclusive because the votes in certain polling units were cancelled.

The announcement by INEC,that d Osun st election conducted on Sat, 22nd Sept 2018,was inconclusive & fixing of 27th of Sept 4 a so called rerun, is a dangerous subversion & travesty of electoral process Ozekhome SAN pic.twitter.com/liuXOQat3V— Sadeeq02 (@Sadeeq022) September 24, 2018
The votes that makes election inconclusive are:
1. If there's over voting in that particular polling unit.
2. If there's a case of ballot box, ballot papers snatching.
3. If election didn't hold due to violence.
There's no report of anyone mentioned above in osun election.— Mai IB Dandija, CNA (@Dandijamisau) September 24, 2018

APC knew very well that they were already loosing the state of Osun, so they had to connive with the INEC returning officer make the election looks inconclusive

The declaration of Osun election inconclusive is a welcome development and shows the independency of INEC. I think M. Buhari shud b given some accolades for giving INEC dis independency and not a situation where INEC will be controlled by a single individual or political party.

The declaration of INEC on the recently concluded gubernatorial election in Osun State as inconclusive must be viewed by the good people of Osun State as an opportunity to reemphasize their mandate and vehemently demand good governance.#VoteYourConscience#SeeAndReject pic.twitter.com/4wiNp5anJa

“In terms of Section 179 of the Constitution, Senator Adeleke ought to be declared as the governor of Osun State. But INEC Guidelines empowers the Commission to declare election inconclusive where the margin between the winner and 1st runner-up is lesser than cancelled votes.
