Museveni Ignores Court Order To Free Me – Bobi Wine

Robert ‘Bobi Wine’ Kyagulanyi, on Monday, complained that he was still under house arrest despite the Uganda High Court ordering the military to leave his premises.

“The High Court ruled this morning that my continued house arrest (11 days now) is illegal and unconstitutional. Several hours later, the military still surrounds my home, blocking access to all! Perhaps (as always) waiting for Gen. Museveni’s orders on the next course of action,” he tweeted.

Wine was the main opposition leader who contested against the incumbent President, Yoweri Museveni, during the country’s last presidential election.

Museveni was declared winner by the nation’s electoral commission on January 16, although Wine had alleged that the polls were rigged.

The United Nations (UN) Watch also backed his claim, saying that the election was marred by intimidation and voter fraud.

The High Court had in the morning of Monday ruled that the military blockade at Kyagulanyi’s residence was unlawful.

Reacting to the development, the United States Embassy in Uganda urged the military to respect the court order.

“The United States calls on security forces to honor the decision. Freedom of expression, assembly, and  movement must be respected for all in a democratic society,” it stated.
