My Vision For Nigerian Army – COAS Farouk Yahaya

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Farouk Yahaya, held his first meeting with strategic frontline officers of the army on Monday.

Yahaya met with the General Officers Commanding (GOCs) and other field commanders on issues bordering on insecurity in the country.

Yahaya, who was recently appointed as COAS by President Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to coordinate the Nigerian Army’s affairs as it combats insurgency in Northern Nigeria and security threats in other parts of the country.

During the meeting, the COAS unveiled his vision for the Nigerian Army.

It includes: “A professional Nigerian Army To accomplish Assigned Missions Within A Joiny Environment In Defence of Nigeria”.

Yahaya said the vision would channelled toward defeating all security challenges presently confronting the country in collaboration with sister security agencies.

In a statement signed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Mohammed Yerima on Thursday, Yahaya also stated the mission of the Nigerian Army under his leadership.

He said the Nigerian Army under him would win all land, “battles in defence of the territorial integrity of Nigeria”.

Part of the mission is also to protect the nation’s interests and accomplish assigned tasks to aid civil authority, amongst others.

The COAS pledged, “unalloyed commitment and loyalty of the NA to the President Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces while assuring all officers and men of exemplary and professional leadership that would serve as a rallying point for all.

“The NA under my command will discharge its duties with diligence, commitment and loyalty to the President Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari’’ he said.

The COAS noted that his appointment came after the Nigerian Army lost its former COAS, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a plane crash along 10 other officers.

He described the late COAS as a big brother, a brilliant officer and a mentor as well as a guardian who has shown exemplary leadership in his brief stay in office. He assured of his desire to continue on the good foot prints of the deceased General.

In attendance were Principal Staff Officers, Corps Commanders, General Officers Commanding, Operational Commanders, Directors and Heads of various NA establishments.
