N800bn Recovery Loot: Court To Hear SERAP’s Case Against FG February 16

The Socio-economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), on Tuesday, said that “the Federal High Court in Abuja today granted SERAP the permission to pursue our case seeking to compel President Buhari, the AGF and Finance Minister to disclose spending of N800bn recovered loot, names of people from whom the money is recovered and date of recovery, etc.”

Justice Evelyn Maha gave the ruling while adjourning hearing on the case till February 16.

According to SERAP, the court also urged the “President Buhari to direct anti-corruption agencies to promptly and thoroughly investigate allegations that payments totalling N51 billion were made into individual accounts in 2019.”

Among other citations, SERAP argued that the President Buhari had on June 12 2020, said that government had recovered looted funds to the tune of about 800 billion naira and has been channeling it towards infrastructural developments.

The court also ordered that the respondents – Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, be served with the hearing notices.
