NJC Recommends Appointment Of 38 New Judges

The National Judicial Council has recommended 38 judicial officers for elevation as Judges across states of the federation.

The Council is constitutionally empowered to screen and interview all candidates,judges and justices, and recommend them for appointment to Customary Court of Appeal, Sharia Court of Appeal, High Court of Justice, National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Federal High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

NJC’ s Director, Information, Soji Oye Esq, issued a statement on Sunday detailing the designation of the newly selected candidates.

According to the statement, the shortlisted candidates will be sworn-in following the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari and their respective state governors.

They will also have to be confirmed by their respective state Assembly.

The statement partly reads:

“The National Judicial Council at its 95th Meeting of 15 & 16 September 2021, considered the list of candidates presented by its Interview Committee and resolved to recommend the under-listed names of Thirty-eight(38) successful candidates to their respective State Governors for appointment as Heads of Courts and other Judicial Officers in Nigeria.
