NNPC Kickstarts Groundbreaking For Infectious Disease Hospital In Bayelsa

The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) on Saturday began the ground breaking event for the construction of a permanent emergency and infectious disease hospital for the south south region in Yenagoa, capita of Bayelsa State.

According to the Corporation, the groundbreaking event marks the commencement of the third category of the oil and gas intervention initiative to support the federal government in the fight against Coronavirus.

Those to attend the event include Boss Gida Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation & Chairman Presidential Task Force for the Control of COVID-19, Timipre Sylva, Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director, NNPC, Mr. Lorenzo Fiorillo, Chairman Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) ,Ademola Adeyemi – Bero, Chairman Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG) and the Executive Governor, Bayelsa State, Sen Douye Diri.

Recall that as part of this effort, NNPC and it’s partners in the nation’s oil and gas industry, embarked on an intervention initiative

The initiative covered three key areas namely: provision of medical consumables, deployment of logistics and In-patient support system and delivery of permanent medical infrastructure across the geopolitical zones of the nation.

The total financial commitment to this initiative amounted to $USD58 million (N21 billion naira) in the first instance.

However, the corporation said the groundbreaking events for similar emergency and infectious diseases hospitals would continue across the geopolitical zones in the coming days.

Meanwhile, prior to the commencement of the third phase, the corporation and its partners, in the first and second phases of the initiative, made donations of medical items, ambulances and In –patient support equipment to Abuja, Rivers State and states in the south west zone of the country including Lagos State.

In similar vein the NNPC extended the donations to states affected by this pandemic in the North West Zone including Kano and Maiduguri State.
