The FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, has warned 532 newly recruited officers against indiscipline, corruption, and negligence in handling weapons.

Odumosu gave the warning on Thursday at the command headquarters, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, during the passing out parade of the new Intakes.

He reminded them that their transition from trainees to NSCDC operatives came with privileges and disciplinary responsibilities

The commandant stressed the importance of adherence to Public Service Rules, NSCDC conditions of service, and operational procedures.

He also warned against lobbying for specific assignments as their deployments to various units would commence immediately.

Odumosu said, “You are now public servants, it will do you a lot of good to get yourselves acquainted with the Public Service Rules, the NSCDC condition of service, scheme of service and standard operational procedures.

“Your training is an on-going process. You will continue to learn on the job till your retirement. As from tomorrow you will start receiving your deployment orders to Departments, Units, Area Command, Divisions and Outposts. It is an offence to lobby for deployment. Wherever you find yourself, give it your best.

“Be warned that this is a regimented organization with zero tolerance for any acts of indiscipline. Here there is no unionism, no activism, and no aluta continua. Respect for and regard for seniority is mandatory irrespective of age and size. You being confirmed as staff of NSCDC does not imply that you have arrived.

“You must shun bribery and other forms of corrupt practices. It is on record that those who have engaged themselves in unwholesome practices as a short cut to making wealth found themselves in taking the shorter and ignominious route out of the corps. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

“In fact you cannot receive enough warnings as far as this job you have found yourself is concerned. You have been trained in weapons handling. This is one aspect of your job that you have to tread with utmost caution.

“The rifle is your wife, it’s your husband it’s your boyfriend and your girlfriend and you must protect it with all your life. In NSCDC, there is nothing like accidental discharge under this dispensation. Once you find yourself holding a weapon, rules of engagement must continually sound in your head. Your rifle is as safe as you want it to be.

“Note also that, you are also expected to maintain a high level of discipline, professionalism and competence in the discharge of your duties.

“Your uniform and weapon must not be used to intimidate or harass any citizens. Please respect the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians and always be guarded by our watchword “Humility and Integrity in Service delivery”.

Odumosu further charged the new operatives to justify the confidence placed in them by both the management and their families.

Adding that the commencement of their work marked the beginning of their service, while expressing gratitude to the families of the new recruits.

“I want to remind you that work has started and you have to justify the confidence the management who found you worthy to be recruited, and your family members who prayed for you to get this job. Thank you, God bless you all,” he added

The commandant earlier revealed that the passing out parade of 532 2023 recruits came after their six months of rigorous training.
