Nuclear Weapons Keep Us Safe From Wars, Says North Korea Leader Jong Un

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, says that his country’s nuclear weapons show its military might and serve as deterent to other countries who may want to threaten it.

Kim made the statement on Monday, at the 67th year of the end of the 1950-53 Korean War, according to state media, KCNA News agency.

Speaking to a session of veterans, Kim claimed that the country was strong enough to deal with any country that threatens it.

“Now we are capable of defending ourselves in the face of any form of high intensity pressure and military threats from imperialist and hostile forces.

“Thanks to our reliable and effective self-defensive nuclear deterrent, there will no longer be war, and our country’s safety and future will be firmly guaranteed forever,” he said.

Reuters reports that the speech came amid stalled talks aimed at dismantling Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programmes in exchange for sanctions relief from Washington.
