He said Amotekun had started operations in some of the states in the South-West, saying Oyo State should not be left behind, especially with the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigerian Police Force.

He said, ” What I want to say is that the process of getting Amotekun started in Oyo State is slow. The government and those in charge should speed up action to make sure Amotekun starts operations in the state as soon as possible.

“People can see what Amotekun is doing in Ekiti State. We also should not relax even though there is no cause for alarm.now, we don’t need to wait till criminals start chasing our people about before starting.

” Although they told us at a meeting which  Col. Kunle Togun (retd) held with some of our members, who we sent to to them to be part of Amotekun, that it would start by the end of November, we believe it should  start earlier than that.”

He said the security situation in the state had not yet been challenged despite the disbandment of SARS, but said the process of kicking off the security unit ( Amotekun) should be faster.

Olumo said Oke Ogun and the Old Oyo National Park were no longer no go areas due to the recent routing of criminals from the area by the OPC and the police, saying members of the group were still keeping an  eye on the area.

He urged residents of the state to always assist security agencies and vigilante groups  by giving them useful information which could be used to prevent occurrence of crime.
