Orsu Divisional Police Headquarters Re-Opens After Years Of Shutdown

The Orsu Police Divisional Headquarters in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State has resumed police and security duties after it was shutdown due to terror activities of suspected Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) members in the area.

This is coming on the heels of an operation carried out by the Nigerian Army at a Ihiteukwa community in Orsu LGA on Saturday.

According to the Director Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigerian troops dislodged an IPOB/ESN hideout at Ihiteukwa and neutralize one of the suspect.

He said: “Nigerian Army troops have successfully cleared IPOB/ESN hideout at Ihiteukwa Community in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, neutralizing one IPOB/ESN Terrorist after an intense firefight on Saturday.

“On overpowering the fighters, the gallant troops conducted a search in their hideout and recovered 3 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), one Toyota Highlander SUV, one Hilux vehicle, 8 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 6 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition and one locally fabricated single barrel gun.

“Other items recovered from the terrorists’ hideout include a pair of proscribed Biafran uniform, one solar panel, one CCTV camera, 10 mobile phones, batteries, a bundle of proscribed Biafran Currency, 3 solar street lights, 3 jungle hats, pairs of black boots and assorted charms.”

Sequel to the success of the dislodgement of the suspected IPOB/ESN members at their hideouts in Orsu, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, alongside DC Operations and operatives of the State’s Special Task Force comprising of the Police and Military, on Tuesday embarked on a confidence building patrol in Orlu, Orsu and Oru East LGAs.

The aim of the visit is to re-engineer back public trust in security agencies and foster community participation in the onslaught against crime and criminality in these areas.

Also, Hon. Francis Uche Agabige representing Orsu State Constituency and one of the leaders of Orsu LGA, Hon. Engr Friday Ibekaeme, joined the CP in accessing the security situation of these areas and collaborative emplaced strategies to make it safer for economic growth and development.
