Ortom’s Impeachment Notice: Court Summons Impeached Benue Speaker, Others

A High Court in Makurdi has ordered the impeached Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr Terkimbi Ikyange; his Deputy, Mr James Okefe; and the Majority Leader, Benjamin Adanyi, to appear before it in seven-day.

The trio were summoned to explain why they violated a court order which restrained them from parading themselves as principal officers of the state assembly.

Recall that eight lawmakers, led by Ikyange served an impeachment notice on the governor of the state, Samuel Ortom.

But the Justice Theresa Igoche led court has summoned the three men to explain why they should not be committed to prison for contempt and violation of its order.

Justice Igoche, in her ruling on an application brought by the 22 PDP lawmakers, also renewed the order restraining the trio from further parading themselves as principal officers of the Assembly.
