Osimhen Doubtful For Super Eagles Semi-Final Clash Against South Africa

Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen is a major doubt for the team’s semi-final clash against South Africa on Wednesday.

The Napoli forward is suffering from abdominal discomfort and did not travel will the team from Abidjan to Bouaké on Monday.

He is, however, expected to join up with the team on Tuesday evening if he is passed fit by the team’s medical team.

The Super Eagles confirmed in a statement released on X on Monday evening.

“Members of the team travelled from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10 pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not, however, make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort. Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm,” the statement read.

Osimhen has been impressive for Nigeria in Ivory Coast despite scoring only once in the tournament. He has been a menace for defenders in the competition allowing his teammates to score with his presence and his tireless style of play.

He has started all five matches in the competition, producing one goal and one assist to lead Nigeria’s charge for the Nations Cup trophy.

Nigerians will be hoping Osimhen can overcome the abdominal discomfort to feature against South Africa.

The Super Eagles will take on the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Wednesday evening in the first semi-finals clash for a place in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
