Osun Looting: Police To Charge Suspects With Armed Robbery As Command Parades 87 Persons

The Osun State Police Command has paraded 87 suspects arrested in connection with the looting of government and individual properties in the state, with the command saying looters would be charged with armed robbery, murder, among other crimes.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebola Hamzat, who led the parade of the suspects in Osogbo on Tuesday said investigation was still on going and anyone established to be culpable would be charged to court.

He said many places were broken into and goods were carted away by residents.

The DCP urged those in possession of stolen items to return them before the expiration of the 72-hour ultimatum given by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. He said the ultimatum would expire on Wednesday.

He said, “A total of 87 suspects were arrested and the looted items are being recovered. Investigation to establish their culpability is on-going. As soon as this is completed, they will be arraigned in court.

“Calling on the hoodlums who participated in the massive looting to take advantage of the amnesty granted by the Executive Governor of the State of Osun to return the looted items in their possession as the 72hour-ultimatum given will elapse tomorrow Wednesday 28th October, 2020.

“After the expiration of the ultimatum which those found with looted items will be arrested and charged among other crimes, for armed robbery,
conspiracy, brigandage, murder, house breaking, stealing, receiving stolen properties and sundry offences.”
