The Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, has reassured that the state government remains committed to transforming Abia State University ( ABSU ) into one of the leading universities in Nigeria.
Represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Uche Eme, the governor made this remark during the 44th Matriculation Ceremony of Abia State University ( ABSU ), where 7,523 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session were formally matriculated at the University Pavillion
Speaking at the event, the Governor praised the efforts and dedication shown by the Governing Council, University Management, and staff for their role in shaping the students into responsible members of society.
“The efforts and dedication of the Governing Council, University Management, and staff do not go unnoticed,
“I commend you all for your dedication to nurturing students into responsible members of society,” Otti said.
The Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Agwu U. Agwu, who was represented by the Governing Council member, Stanley Okonta, pledged to support the policies of the Governor aimed at making the University stand out positively amongst other universities.

“The Governing Council will continue giving their support and implement the policies of the governor aimed at elevating the University standards to compete favourably at national and global levels,” he stated.
In his address, the Vice- Chancellor, Ndukwe Okeudo, revealed the remarkable growth in student admissions and attributed them to the massive support of the State Government.
Okeudo urged the matriculating students to maintain decorum, avoid cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, violence and be on their best behaviour at all times.
“As you embark on this journey, you need to focus, set goals, avoid distractions of any kind and remain committed to your academic pursuits,” he said.
The ceremony featured goodwill messages from representatives of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and Nigerian Education Loan Fund. The administration of the Marticulation Oath on the Students was later carried out by the University Registrar, Acho Elendu.
