The former governor, however, said that the party would have to zone the position to the South-West where he comes from for him to join the race for the chairmanship position.

He said
“blackmailers” who forced him to defect to the All Progressives Congress in 2014 had started attacking him and working against his intention to contest the position.

Oyinlola, who defected to the APC on August 5, 2014 before the Osun State gubernatorial election berated his traducers for holding his defection against him now that he could bring his wealth of experience to bear if he emerged the chairman of the party.

Oyinlola said, “I will throw in my cap in for the contest as the national chairman of PDP on two conditions; if it is zoned to the South-West and if I can muster the stakeholders of the party to be behind me.

“My 10 years cumulative experience as governor is not a mean feat. I was governor for seven years six months in Osun State and two years six months in Lagos, totalled 10 years.

” I was once the national Secretary of the party, the engine room of the party, what then does it take, what kind of experience does anyone want to see in the national chairman. So if those two conditions are met I will contest.

“Those who want to use my defection to APC against me are just blackmailers. I went with Atiku ( Abubakar) to APC and he came back they gave him the presidential ticket. Senator Ademola Adeleke left APC and the following month, he got the senatorial ticket of PDP.

“Those who are saying I once left PDP for APC are blackmailers. I have the capacity, it was these same people who are saying this that drove me away from the party because they engineered my removal wrongly from the office of the National Secretary.

“They are like bullies who look for ways to harass best minds. Those people traducing me knows that I have the integrity and other qualities to lead the party, I have not been found wanting from serving two states in this country.”

Speaking on the bandit attack at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Oyinlola blamed it on negligence of duties

He said, “What happened at NDA is a total disgrace, whatever that might have happened, somebody refused to do his work. It is a total slap on the face of the military. I have not gotten the detail of how it happened. If that kind of thing could happen in such a place, then God helps all of us. I am sad that such happened having served the military for 30 years.”
