PDP Will Defeat Akeredolu In Credible Poll, Says Jegede

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State, Mr Eyitayo Jegede ( SAN) has said the electorate in the state are determined  to end the reign of  Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the All Progressives Congress in the October 10 governorship poll.

Jegede said he was confident that the APC government would come to an end if the election was credible and violence free.

He said this in an interview with journalists on Saturday morning at the Government House in Ibadan after the meeting of the PDP National Campaign  Council for Ondo State Governorship  Election presided over by Governor Seyi Makinde.

 He  warned against the use of violence and electoral malpractices in the election, saying such would be resisted by the people who he said were tired of the ruling party.

Jegede said, ” We are set for the election, they said we were not ready in 2019  but we overwhelmed them. This time around we are going to overwhelm them again by the grace of God.

“We will make sure that our  people experience a new lease of life. We will address the problem in the education sector. The high cost of tuition imposed by the APC government will be brought down when we get to government by the grace of God. The high cost of healthcare will also be brought down.

“We will provide opportunities for our youths to get employments and we will address the agricultural  sector to boost food production and create jobs. We will look at tourism and see how the mineral deposit in the state can be tapped. We are going to set a deadline to exploit bitumen.

“The people of the state will be happy for it. We are ready for the election.
What happened in 2016 will not repeat itself because in 2016, we had internal conflict but we are united now. The people of Ondo State have seen the negative effects of APC government.

“If the APC is sure of its position they would not have threatened violence, they would not be saying they rely on federal might to win. The masses are with us and the APC should not unleash violence  on the state. The APC government will go down in the state any day  we have a free and fair election. We will resist any attempt to thwart the wish of the people.”

The PDP National Organising Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu, said although Ondo State was predominantly a PDP state, the party would work harder to win the poll.

He said, “We went and took an appraisal of what we need to do to get to the Government House in Ondo. We have reviewed our strategies and we have set out things to do. We will meet again to review everything until we get to Government House in Ondo State.

“Ondo is predominantly PDP. We are determined to get in there, we know we have to work hard and we have started that.  Ondo people know that PDP is the next government but despite that we are not taking anything for granted, we are working hard and we are determined to get in there.”
