The Group Managing Director Of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari has confirmed that five lives were lost following the Abule-Egba  Pipeline attack in Lagos State.

Recall that the fire incident, which occurred on Sunday night was said to have been caused by activities of vandals at Ile Epo around the Abule Egba axis.

However, Kyari noted that vandalism along the right of way of pipelines in the country gives rise to incidence of explosion as the vandals continuously make insertions into the pipelines.

“It’s unfortunate we lost 5 lives to this inferno, with many in critical condition in the hospitals, all due to unpatriotic acts of vandals along our Pipeline Right of Way, who make insertions into the pipelines to steal products, leading to disasters such as this.”

The GMD further urged Nigerians to be a strong support system to the Cooperation noting that the NNPC has been working daily with security agencies to contain the menace of pipeline vandalism, a situation that threatens the country.

“We, therefore, need the support of every member of the community to expose the bad eggs in their midst. We are counting on Nigerians to help us resolve this as it is becoming a matter of national security concern.”

Recall that that Kyari has recently partnered with different security agencies in the country, especially the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS)   towards securing the company’s oil and gas assets across the Niger Delta.
