Pochettino Eyes First Trophy In England After Leading Chelsea To Carabao Cup Final

Mauricio Pochettino has urged his Chelsea players to win the Carabao Cup trophy after recording a 6-1 win over Middlesbrough to qualify for the final.

The Blues produced a stunning performance at Stamford Bridge to brush aside the visitors, having lost 1-0 in the first leg.

Cole Palmer scored a brace, coupled with other goals from Enzo Fernandez, Axel Disasi, Noni Madueke, and an unfortunate own goal by Howson wrapped up victory for Chelsea in style.

They will face the winners between Liverpool and Fulham in the final at Wembley on February 25.

Pochettino, who has never won a trophy in England, is desperate to end his trophy drought by leading Chelsea to Carabao Cup glory.

The former PSG led Tottenham to the Carabao Cup final in 2015, where they lost to Chelsea.

Pochettino said: “I’m desperate to win a title here, In one year and a half in Paris, we won three trophies, and we want to win one here. I’m desperate to win, of course.”

Chelsea have now won five out of their last six games in all competitions, Pochettino described the run as an amazing achievement.

“In some point, it’s an amazing achievement,” he added. “I think it was the objective when we started: With no Champions League, no Europa League, no Conference League, to build a team from nearly zero. Of course, that was the objective to be at Wembley in February.

“The job is done, but now it is about winning the final. From another side it is like it is not important as Chelsea is about winning the Champions League and Premier League.

“We need to start to realise and give credit to the team – as this is a team where a massive percentage didn’t maybe play at Wembley [before]. It’s important for the club, important for us, and in this process, to build a new team.”

Pochettino believes that the final will help build the mentality of the young players.

Chelsea will be back in action against Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round at Stamford Bridge on Friday.
