Police Begin Crackdown As Communal Tensions Flare In Adamawa

Authorities in Adamawa State have intensified security operations in Lamurde Local Government Area following a renewed communal clash that triggered a 24-hour emergency curfew.

The state government and police command moved simultaneously to contain the violence, deploying armed personnel and issuing directives aimed at restoring order.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri declared the curfew shortly after violence erupted on Sunday evening.

A statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Hammangabdo, said the governor ordered security agencies to immediately move into the troubled communities to restore peace and prevent further attacks.

The statement reads, “The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening.

“Signed by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, security agencies have been directed to move into the area and restore peace and order without delay.”

The government appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with operatives enforcing the emergency measures as efforts intensify to halt the escalation.

Responding to the crisis, Commissioner of Police Dankwambo Morris deployed additional heavily armed operatives on Monday.

The command, through its spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, explained that the latest outbreak of violence began on the night of Sunday, December 6, 2025.

Nguroje conveyed the command’s public advisory, quoting: “Adamawa State Police Command wishes to advise members of the public, particularly those within Lamurde LGA, to respectfully comply with such order and stay indoors to prevent further breakdown of law and order.”

The police command said the commissioner activated more operational assets to monitor compliance with the curfew and enforce the restrictions thoroughly.

The statement added, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankwambo Morris, has deployed more operational assets of the command to the areas, to monitor compliance and enforce the curfew using all legal means.”

It further noted that the command was working jointly with other security agencies while balancing enforcement with citizens’ rights.

According to the statement, “The command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, while respecting the rights of the citizens, equally enjoys them to avoid all forms of action capable of threatening the security in the area.”

Nguroje cautioned that the police would not permit miscreants or violent actors to exploit the crisis.

He also urged all deployed security personnel to operate strictly within the boundaries of the law.
