Police Deploy In Osun Community As Woman’s Corpse Found In Mining Site

The Osun State Police Command has deployed armed policemen in Ibodi in the Atakumonsa West Local Government Area of Osun State as youths mobilised to attack miners in the community over the death of a food vendor.

It was gathered that the food vendor , Mrs Wumi Babatope, had on Monday gone to Afon village , a mining site to sell food but she did not return home.

The incident was said to have made the husband of the food seller to raise the alarm and a search party was raised.

The search party was said to have discovered the corpse of the woman at a mining site in the village. She was said to be naked which raised the suspicion that she was raped to death by the miners.

The angry youths were said to have accused the miners of killing the woman after raping her so that she would not be alive to identify them.

Residents said the angry youths had started mobilising and arming themselves to attack the miners in the area over the killing of the woman.

The spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, when contacted on phone confirmed the incident.

She said, ” Policemen have been deployed to the community and they are working to douse the tension and arrest the perpetrators.”
