‘Poverty’ Fastest Growing Business Under Buhari – Senator Ben Bruce

The lawmaker representing Bayelsa East constituency in the National Assembly, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, has claimed that under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, “poverty is the fastest growing business”.

Murray-Bruce, who is a Senator of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the second and third fastest growing businesses under the Buhari regime are allegedly “corruption” and “terrorism” respectively.

The federal lawmaker equally said while the current administration enjoys laying blames on previous governments for its alleged incompetence, the aforementioned problems facing the country will never “bow to blame games”.

Mr Murray-Bruce further said only a “solution-oriented” government can bring succour to its citizens amidst the alleged hunger and security challenges facing the country.

“The fastest growing business in Nigeria is poverty. The second fastest growing business is corruption. The third fastest growing business is terrorism. These are problems that won’t bow to blame games. They can only be solved by forward-looking leadership that‘s solution-oriented, “the Senator tweeted on Friday.

Meanwhile, according to the latest report of Brookings Institution’s rankings of poorest countries in the world, Nigeria is said to have overtaken India as the country with the highest number of “extremely poor” citizens.

The report said Nigeria, which has a population of about 200 million, has now overtaken India which has a population of 1.324 billion, as the country with poorest citizens.

“According to our projections, Nigeria has already overtaken India as the country with the largest number of extreme poor in early 2018, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo could soon take over the number 2 spot,” the report said.

It added that, “At the end of May 2018, our trajectories suggest that Nigeria had about 87 million people in extreme poverty, compared with India’s 73 million. What is more, extreme poverty in Nigeria is growing by six people every minute, while poverty in India continues to fall.”
