Premier League Set To Change Transfer Deadline

Premier League clubs will discuss proposals to move the transfer deadline to before the start of the season in future, TIME reports.

The report added that the English clubs will meet next month to discuss a possible date change.

The current transfer window closes in England at the end of August, with some managers in the top flight criticising the window for remaining open after the start of the current campaign.

At least 14 of the 20 clubs are said to be in favour of the new proposal.

Representatives from each club will meet on September 7 and it is believed that the vote to change the transfer deadline will pass.

The new rule would likely move the deadline forward by two or three weeks.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in an interview on the current transfer window reiterated his call for deadline day to be brought forward.

“It would have helped us this year (if the window shut when the season started),” Klopp said.

“There is a phenomenon and then people go looking for solutions. It makes sense that when the season is starting, planning for the team is over.

“But I also understand that some things take a bit more time. The whole market has changed – the behaviour of people.

“It’s good to be with your whole team on the training pitch. The best thing is that the team stays together for four or five years but I know it’s quite naive to say such a thing.

“I know the market has changed, it’s become very hectic, but we won’t take that as an excuse. We have a good team.”

A number of clubs in the English league are still to get their squad in order despite the new campaign kicking off last weekend.

Southampton, Chelsea and Liverpool all have players in their sides keen to leave.

Other clubs, such as Manchester City and Huddersfield Town, wrapped up their transfer dealings early in the summer.
