‘Right Appointment’ – Newly Appointed SIS Commander, Igwe Emerges FCT CP As PSC Appoints Nine Other Commissioners

The Newly appointed Commander of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Beneth Igwe has emerged as the Commissioner of Police (CP) of the FCT.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) announced his appointment and nine others as CP, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Ani Ikechukwu on Wednesday.

CP Igwe takes over from the newly promoted Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Haruna Garba, who is now the AIG Armament.

Before Igwe’s current deployment, he was the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operation (Ops) in the FCT Command, and is popularly known for his commitment and professionalism towards fighting crime and criminality.

Senior officers in the Command while speaking to THE WHISTLER on his appointment, expressed satisfaction over the development, describing it as a perfect timing.

One of the senior officers said, “He is very operational and he came at the right time. In fact, they brought him at the perfect time.”

CP Igwe who also served as an Officer-in-Charge of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), FCT Command was also described by another senior officer as a “workaholic” whose emergence as FCT CP would put many senior officers on the hot seat.

The FCT has been ravaged by the menace of insecurity as residents record increased cases of one-chance syndicate, kidnapping for ransom, killing and armed robbery in the last five months.

Meanwhile, the PSC also appointed nine other CPs including Peter Opara posted to Osun State; Olughemiga Adesina posted to Benue State; Akinwale Adeniran posted to Ekiti State, Mohammed Abba, posted to Adamawa State and Abaniwonda Olufemi posted to Delta State.

Others include Ademola Ayilara, posted to Akwa Ibom; David Iloyanomon, posted to Taraba State; Abayomi Peter posted to Ondo State and Hassan Yabnet posted to Plateau State.

“PSC Chairman, Dr Solomon Arase, retired Inspector General of Police told the new Command CPs that they should rebuild public trust through robust partnership with the public. He warned that the Commission will not accept any excuse for failure to give effective and efficient leadership.

“He assured that the Commission will continue to encourage them but warned that the security of lives and properties in their areas of jurisdiction should not be taken for granted,” the statement said.
