Rights Group Calls For Investigation Of Alleged Assault On Woman Accused Of Witchcraft By In-law

The Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called on the Rivers State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged physical assault on Mrs. Love Nwanyanwu by her brother-in-law and leader of Etche LGA Legislative Arm, Hon. Blackson Nwanyanwu.

Mrs. Nwanyanwu had alleged in a video that the lawmaker, who is a brother to her husband, teamed up with the husband’s siblings and family to accuse her of witchcraft and other crimes in the family.

According to Mrs. Nwanyanwu, “I overheard my husband brother who is a councilor in Etche telling his family I am a witch and more. They all descended on me, he hit me with a chair and they beat me up.

“I call on people to help me fight for Justice as I am seeking for justice. They left me heavily injured.”

Meanwhile, the lawmaker has denied assaulting the woman and has issued a statement threatening a lawsuit against her.

The centre however in a statement said only a thorough investigation would unravel the truth and anybody found culpable should be made to face the law.
It added that no citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is above the law.
