According to Nation, sporadic gunshots were also recorded in Buguma-Kalabari, Asari-Toru Local Government Area of the state, as well as in Isiokpo, the seat of Ikwerre council.

It was learnt that those behind the sporadic shootings are yet to be identified by security agencies.

The incident reportedly contributed to low voter turnout of voters recorded in parts of the state, coupled with the snatching of electoral materials by thugs.

Meanwhile, speaking earlier, Governor Nyesom Wike blamed the low turnout of voters in the state on alleged illegal activities of military.

“The way the military acted discouraged people from turning up. The role of the military is to provide security. But it is unfortunate that they directly participate. Police have no role in the elections. The military appears to have taken over police duties,” Wike had told reporters.
