Saraki, Ahmed To Lose Pension As Abdulrazaq Sends Bill To Kwara Assembly

Kwara State has resolved to toe the line of Lagos State by stopping pension for former governors and their deputies in the state.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, in a tweet on Friday, said the move was in line with his campaign promise to the people of the state.

“In line with our campaign mantra and the yearnings of our people, next week I will be sending a bill to the State House of Assembly to revoke the law awarding pension packages to former governors and former deputy governors in Kwara State.

“Our state needs all the resources it can get to improve our human capital development. I believe our limited resources are better spent on tackling the question of poverty and youth unemployment,” said Abdulrazaq.

If the bill is passed by the Kwara Assembly and signed into law by the governor, it would mean that former governors such as Bukola Saraki and Abdulfatah Ahmed, amongst others, would have their pensions as former governors stopped.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported similar plan by the Lagos State Governor to repeal the Pension Law 2007 which provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former governors and their deputies in the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the plan during the presentation of the 2021 Appropriation Budget at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

The governor said the move was part of efforts to reduce the cost of governance in the state.
