Sowore: Onanuga Joins In Blasting Buhari

The immediate past Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Bayo Onanuga, has joined in criticizing the Department of State Security (DSS), over the arrest and detention of Mr. Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, for plans to destabilized the country.

Onanuga, a President Muhammadu Buhari appointee, in a Facebook post slammed the secret police for using “operational manual of the military era,” which he said was “anachronistic.”

Before the expiration of his tenure as the MD of the nation’s newswire, Onanuga faced barrage of protests from workers over poor working conditions.

In his reaction to Sowore’s arrest by the DSS, he posted on Facebook: “The DSS must understand that the operational manual of the military era is now anachronistic. Nigerians who passed through the DSS grill of those aberrant years know what I am talking about.”

Mr. Onanuga was also a victim of state arrest in the 80s.

On Sunday, spokesperson of the Service, Mr. Peter Afunanya, told journalists that Sowore was taken into custody because he called for a revolution in Nigeria.

According to Afunanya the DSS was “aware” that Mr Sowore had been in touch with foreign actors to destabilise Nigeria.
