Step Up Offensive Against Kidnappers, Bandits, Army Chief Tells Ibadan Division

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops under the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army to intensify offensive operations and dismantle criminal networks operating within their area of responsibility.

Shaibu issued the directive on Monday while addressing officers and soldiers at Odugbo Barracks in Ibadan during his first operational visit to the 2 Division since assuming office.

He assessed ongoing security operations and reviewed the conduct of troops confronting crimes such as banditry and kidnapping across the region.

The Army Chief acknowledged the division’s operational progress, noting the discipline and effectiveness displayed by personnel in countering criminal activities.

He stressed the need for sustained pressure on armed groups and other criminal elements, emphasising that security operations must extend to forests, bushes and identified hideouts.

“I have been thoroughly briefed on your operations and the remarkable successes you have recorded,” the COAS stated.

“I commend your efforts and urge you to sustain the momentum.

“Go after the kidnappers and other miscreants wherever they are, whether in the bushes, forests or their hideouts, ensure these criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum.” he charged.

Beyond operational directives, Shaibu underscored the importance of troop welfare to mission success.

He disclosed that the Army has approved the renovation of existing residential structures and the construction of additional accommodation within the barracks to improve living conditions for personnel.

He explained that morale and welfare are central to his leadership approach, describing them as essential factors that directly influence combat effectiveness and troop discipline.
