Buhari Appoints Babatunde Fowler As New FIRS Chair

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a former Chairman of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue, Dr. William Babatunde Fowler, as the new Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

His appointment came following the sack of Samuel Ogungbesan who was appointed by Former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin, a master of business administration from the California State University, and honorary doctorate degree of the Irish International University.

Before joining the service of the Lagos State government, he worked in the banking sector for a period of 20 years, with long spells at Credit Lyonnais Nigeria limited and Chartered Bank.

He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Business Management Association of the United Kingdom.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Mr. Fowler will act in acting capacity pending his confirmation by the Senate.
