Ronaldo Banned For 5 Games

Cristiano Ronaldo has been given a five-match ban following his red card in Real Madrid’s 3-1 Victory in the Spanish Super Cup first leg against Barcelona on Sunday.

The Portuguese international was sent off in bizarre fashion, collecting a yellow card for taking his shirt off during a goal celebration before being shown a second for diving.

The 32-year-old shoved referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea, for sending him off, before leaving the pitch.

He was given a €3850 fine and a four-match suspension in addition to the automatic one-game ban the player was due to serve for his red card.

Ronaldo could have been suspended for a maximum of 12 games, but the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) opted to impose a five-match ban.

Ronaldo and Madrid have 10 days to appeal against the sanction.

Should the ban stand, the star forward will miss the second leg of the Supercopa, followed by Liga matches away to Deportivo La Coruna, at home to Valencia and Levante and away to Real Sociedad.
