Senate Adjourns Plenary Over Adeleke’s Death

The Senate has adjourned plenary to Wednesday, 25th April, 2017 over the death of their colleague, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke.

Adeleke died on Sunday after suffering a heart attack in his home town of Ede, Osun State. He was laid to rest on Monday according to Islamic rites.

Moving the motion on Tuesday, Senator Ahmed Lawan told the lawmakers that respect should be given to the departed for his contribution to the National development.

“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, I rise through order 43 of our rules to announce the death of our colleague, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke who died on Sunday, 23rd April, 2017.”

“It is the practice and conviction of National Assembly to show respect to the departed for us to adjourn plenary to the next legislative day,” he said.

Upholding the motion, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, urged lawmakers to be available on Wednesday as valedictory speeches for Adeleke would be taken.

Late Adeleke, was a second timer to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman, Senate Committee on Capital markets.
