Suspected Electricity Vandal, Cultists Arrested In Imo

One Ewurum Obinna, 22, who allegedly specializes in vandalizing transformers and stealing electricity armoured cables in Nekede and its environs, has been arrested by the Imo State Police Command.

He was arrested by the Nekede Divisional Police Headquarters of Imo State Command, our correspondent gathered on Sunday.

He was arrested in the early hours of Friday after a hot chase by police operatives, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, confirmed, adding that he confessed to the crime admitting that his syndicate was responsible for stealing high-tension electricity cables and vandalizing the transformer at Dike Dum Lodge, Trinity Junction, and other areas in Nekede.

Okoye said, “Effort is intensified to arrest other suspects at large, particularly the receivers of the stolen items, and make them face the full wrath of the law.”

The Nekede Divisional Headquarters also on Friday arrested suspected cultists along Human Race Road, Naze.

Okoye gave the names of the suspects as Chimezie Chukwukere, 26, and Arinze Victor, 26. Items recovered from them are one black toy gun, two cutlasses, black berets with a black axe logo inscribed on it, and other incriminating items were recovered.

Okoye said, “During the investigation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity and are currently assisting the operatives. They will be arraigned in court after the conclusion of the investigation.”
