Trump Says ‘Persecution’ Of Christians In Nigeria Horrible

United States President, Donald Trump, on Monday, described as “horrible” the “persecution” of Christians in Nigeria by suspected Fulani herdsmen under President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime.

President Trump, prior to his meeting with Buhari, had told the Nigerian president that the United States will strongly rebuff the incessant killing of Christians in the country by the herders.

“We have had very serious problems with Christians who are being murdered in Nigeria, we are going to be working on that problem very, very hard because we cannot allow that to happen,” Trump had said.

The U.S President, after the meeting, said his country has been committing at least $1 billion yearly to Nigeria as aid over the years in order to better the country.

Trump equally reiterated the United States government’s commitment to combating terrorism, human trafficking and slavery around the world, including Nigeria.

He recalled that his administration had only recently lifted the embargo placed on sales of firearms to Nigeria by the U.S government. He said this was to allow the country effectively combat terrorism and safeguard human lives.
