Trump Trial: U.S Senate Blocks Presentation Of Documents,Witnesses

The United States Senate has blocked the moves made by House Democrats to obtain evidence, documents and witnesses involved in Donald Trumps’ White House dealings with Ukraine.

The Republican-controlled Senate voted on party lines on Wednesday with a 53-47 head count, thereby countering Democratic leader Chuck Schumer’s four motions to order that documents and records be produced from the White House, the State Department, the Defense Department and the Office of Management and Budget.

Reuters reports that Trump’s chief legal defender argued the Democratic case was a baseless effort to overturn the 2016 election but a top Democratic lawmaker said there was “overwhelming” evidence of wrongdoing.

Democratic Representative Adam Schiff argued that a trial can only be fair when witnesses and evidences are presented before the Senate.

“Senators get 16 hours to ask questions. Wouldn’t they like to ask about documents? If McConnell gets his way, they won’t see any documents before their questions.

“Americans deserve a fair trial,” he said

Furthermore, the White House counsel Pat Cipollone, criticized Democrats for allegedly fabricating lies against the president on the account of an “unknown” whistleblower.

The impeachment trail is ongoing.

Recall that Speaker Nancy Pelosi had said the US President Trump violated the US constitution and such, deserved to be impeached from office or removed at the 2020 presidential elections.

But the US President had said that the impeachment move by the democrats is a political witch-hunt.
