U.S. Senate Confirms First Gay White House Cabinet Member As Transportation Secretary

The United States Senate, on Tuesday, confirmed Pete Buttigieg as Secretary of Transportation.

Buttigieg was selected for the position by President Joe Biden.

AFP reports that Buttigieg is “the first openly gay member of a White House cabinet.”

Recall that Buttigieg was one of the contestants at the 2020 Democratic presidential campaign.

But he later stood down to back Biden.

He was confirmed after the total votes by the lawmakers went in his favor ( 86 to 13).

Prior to the voting, the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Biden’s nominee would deliver on his assignment.

“Mr. Buttigieg is committed to working with members from both sides to improve rail and transit, highways, and more—in rural communities, urban centers, and everywhere in between,” he said.

THE WHISTLER reported that Biden had assured that he would give a voice to people who are gay, lesbian, transgender and other LGBTQ community.
