Unchained Mad Dog: Nigerians React To Aisha Buhari’s Outburst On Fayose

By Abimbola Johnson-

Nigerians have sharply reacted to a statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha, via her official twitter handle describing the governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose as an unchained mad dog.

Fayose had earlier claimed that the president’s wife was involved in the Halliburton bribery scandal, involving a U.S. Congressman, Williams Jefferson for which the American lawmaker was convicted in 2009.

Reacting to the allegation via her verified twitter account, the First Lady tweeted: “Enough is enough.

“Fayose is an unchained mad dog. If Buhari is 73 years old, I Aisha am 45 years old, I have more than enough energy to face you.”

But in swift responses, Nigerians who spoke to The Whistler, expressed that Mrs Buhari response was untamed.

Mr Iji Ina Dickson, said that public figures must at all times maintain propriety in the manner in which they conduct themselves, and most especially in their speech.

“Anyone occupying a public office, most especially in the degree of the presidency should, as a reason of MUST, learn how to use civilized words to express his/her self.

“Mrs Buhari’s utterance was highly uncivilized and a negative”

Also expressing his view, Adeyemi Peterson said that it is pitiable that the country is in such a state where the rule of law is no longer considered, adding that anyone can do anything as long as they are in power.

Peterson, who said that reports indicated that the “Aisha Buhari” mentioned in the Jefferson’s scandal was not the wife of the president, asserted that it remains unjustifiable for her to spill out such venom against the governor.

He suggested that her sharp response probably arose due to the fact that Fayose is from the opposition party and has been critical of Buhari’s government ever since his assumption into office.

He said “Nigeria also is not the First Nation to have strong opposition as it were, the United States for instance has greater opposition.

“But never for once would you recall Michelle Obama publicly venting her anger on her husband’s opposition.

“Our leaders need to come to the realization of the fact that they are pace setters and are international figures. I would so much for the sake of remorse and shame wish the Wife of the President can make a public statement that her account was hacked or something, because it is supposed to be unheard of.

“Unfortunately, this incident shows the high deteriorating state of this country and it is only “true patriotism” that can restore us back to the path we should go.

“We will continually remain in this state if the ruling party goes around chasing the opposition party to make them irrelevant. This simply shows that we have not even understood what it means to be an “Independent Nation”.

“Take a cue from Nelson Mandela, despite the fact that he was jailed, he never at any point went after those who jailed him and South Africa is one of the countries with the highest peaceful cohabitation of different races!”

Another aggrieved Nigerian, Tolu Akinbile, who spoke to this medium, noted that the fact that Mrs Buhari was under provocation shouldn’t be ruled out.

She however stated that despite the provocation, it is still not good enough for her to vent her anger to the glare of the public.

“Aisha Buhari was under provocation that’s why she mentioned that statement. ‎But it’s not still good enough for her to say such! Knowing that her religion does not permits a woman to insult a man.

‎”Ordinarily a woman is to caution her action and inaction. You don’t have to be a wife to the president before you learn how to talk, or learn what to say and what not to say,” she said.

Nigerians, therefore, called on Mrs Buhari to be cautious in her utterances, especially when top government officials are involved.
