UNIPORT Clarifies Status Of Choba Fire Incident Victim

The University of Port Harcourt has clarified that Cynthia Chukwundah, the female individual involved in a recent fire incident at Choba, Port Harcourt, is not a student of the institution.

This clarification came after thorough internal checks and verification of student records.

Recall that the police earlier said Chukwundah is a 300-level female undergraduate student of the University of Port Harcourt, who allegedly set her boyfriend one Saint Sunny Amadi, a 32-year old male from the Elibrada Community in Emohua LGA, ablaze in a room, resulting in severe injuries during the inferno, and was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) for medical treatment.

The police said upon receiving the report at about 11:12 hours, detectives from Choba Division promptly visited the scene and the victim at the hospital, who was in critical condition.

Unfortunately, the victim later succumbed to injuries and died while on admission.

The institution urged members of the public and media outlets to refrain from spreading unverified information and to allow law enforcement agencies to conduct a full and impartial investigation.

He noted that the University remains committed to the safety, discipline, and general well-being of its students.

He, however, said the public can contact the University’s Public Relations Unit for further updates.
